Royal Randwick
Royal Randwick is the historic home of thoroughbred racing in Sydney. Established in 1860, it is Australia’s longest standing horse racing venue. Known to locals as ‘Headquarters’ the recent $A170 million redevelopment of the venue has created modern amenities featuring a luxury five level Grandstand and ‘Theatre of the Horse’ outdoor tiered amphitheatre. The Grandstand takes full advantage of its elevated position offering prime trackside views, and an exquisite backdrop featuring the Centennial Parklands and the city skyline beyond. The superior technology and multipurpose nature of the Grandstand ensures all racegoers enjoy an enhanced experience complete with the largest outdoor screen in the Southern Hemisphere, free WiFi and a myriad of other innovations.
Located just five kilometres from the city centre, the course is easily accessed by car and public transport. Royal Randwick is also close to the international and domestic airports and the popular eastern suburbs beaches of Bondi and Coogee, making it an ideal location for interstate and international visitors. The Royal Randwick course proper is the largest track in NSW. Royal Randwick features a long back straight from the 1600 metre mark, sweeping bends and a slight uphill gradient in the home straight known as ‘the rise’.
