He wasn’t even in the race 24 hours before the gates flew, but after a few scratchings, emergency Kermadec made his presence felt in Australia’s best 1600-metre event, the Doncaster Mile.
Kermedec was one of the most in-form three-year-olds in the country in the autumn without cracking it for a big win until masterful Group 1 performer Glen Boss jumped on board to guide the talented colt through the field and win the Doncaster Mile in “soft” fashion by 1 ¾ lengths from Japanese raider Real Impact and stablemate Royal Descent.
It was the fifth time trainer Chris Waller had won the event since 2008.
