Murrumbidgee Turf Club (Wagga) will then conduct heat four of the seven $100,000 Country Championships qualifying races, with Grafton, Goulburn and Dubbo to follow.

First and second in each heat will then head to Royal Randwick on Saturday 4 April to compete for a $300,000 purse in the Country Championships Final (1400m).

At each of the Country Championships Day, the race club will host a designated ‘Racing and Grazing’ area that provides patrons with a free gourmet barbecue and live entertainment, with Tamworth offering music by singer-songwriter Jacki Ranclaud.

Tamworth Jockey Club’s CEO, Victoria Toy, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the Tamworth Country Championships race.

“Preparations are well under way that will see the track and its surrounds looking absolutely great for the Country Championships race meeting.

“The free ‘Racing and Grazing’ barbeque will be very popular, as will the entertainment by young local performer Jacki Ranclaud.”

The NSW Government is a strong supporter of The Championships and backed last year’s highly-successful concept in its inaugural year with the series now recognised globally.

This year’s The Championships will be held on Saturday 4 and 11 April at Royal Randwick, where the 12 grand finals of Australian Thoroughbred racing will be centre stage incorporating eight Group One events as well as the initial Provincial and Country Championships.
