Born in to the horse racing industry, John Thompson is a fourth generation trainer. For 20 years he worked as a foreman in some of the country’s leading stables including the Ingham’s Crown Lodge and Bart Cummings Leilani Lodge, where he was Bart’s right hand man for 8 years. In 2009, John took the position of head trainer at Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm. After six months into this role, Thompson was struck with group 1 success, when Small Minds took out the Australasian Oaks and stable mate No Evidence Needed finished second. With interstate stables at Randwick and Eagle Farm, John Thompson Racing Stables, has won various group races within five states, including diversity in distances from 1200-2400m. The dedicated trainer, was also Australia’s leading 2yo trainer in the 2011/2012 season. John Thompson’s proven methods speak for themself, resulting in more than 460 winners including 44 stakes races and close to $20 million in prize money. Notably, the Flight Stkaes at Randwick in October 4th, 2014 with filly First Seal steering to victory.
