About
Winona Costin, Sydney’s adopted star apprentice, has been tearing around the paddock on horseback since the ripe age of three with riding royalty flowing through her veins. The granddaughter of two Melbourne Cup place getters, Winona was destined to a be a jockey and lived up to it when at just 19 she was the youngest rider to line up in the two feature events on Black Opal Stakes Day. An impressive apprentice, Winona has perfect balance and it was her confident, tactical performance at Royal Randwick in May 2014, where she rode her first Sydney Saturday winner on Gai Waterhouse-Trained Alamlad, winning by more than three lengths. This established her interesting relationship with the trainer as she proved she is going to be an asset at Tulloch Lodge. A hard worker and extremely talented Costin, has established herself as an apprentice with a bright future earning several Group One rides.
