About

Born in England, raised in South Africa and now calling Australia home, Schofield has ridden successfully across the globe, including England, South Africa, Australia, France, Mauritius and Singapore. He first started riding in Queensland with the late Bruce McLachlan.

Schofield’s move to Australia followed success in two Group One races in South Africa but it is his association with the smart sprinter Hay List that Schofield could consider as the crowning moments of his career in Australia to date. Winning two Group One races on Hay List, both horse and rider had to settle for the ‘bridesmaid’ tag behind Black Caviar on six occasions.

Having ridden more than 1500 winners, his ultimate international success came in the Group 1-Hong Kong Sprint on Natural Blitz in 2004 during his four-year stint in the Asian racing hub.

Racing runs strongly within the Schofield family with son Chad following his father into race riding showing early promise claiming the 2011/12 apprentice premiership in Sydney and the 2012/13 equivalent in Melbourne.

Chad has since had plenty of success winning the Group One Cox Plate last spring on Shamus Award, and recently winning the Group One Newmarket on Lankan Rupee and the Group Two Adelaide Cup on Outback Joe.

Glyn Schofield has formed a strong partnership with Boban, having won three Group One events on the gelding: the Epsom Handicap, the Emirates Stakes and the Chipping Norton Stakes.

Glyn’s brother-in-law is the successful globetrotting jockey Jeff Lloyd.
