John O’Shea declared that Astern was the best horse he has ever trained over the spring. It’s a big call but his Golden Rose win was no doubt that of a star sprinter. He subsequently was beaten in the Roman Consul but lost no admirers given the way the race was run before running second to Flying Artie in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
This Medaglia D’Oro youngster is part of a very strong crop of sprinting three-year-olds. Looks to have returned a strong bull ahead of the autumn. Expect the TJ Smith to be firmly in the sights of Godolphin.
