Glen Boss Claims The Nathan Berry Medal On Countback

By Mark Brassel

Glen Boss has taken out the prestigious 2020 Nathan Berry Medal in a gripping finish, with the rider finishing on 10 points along with Kerrin McEvoy.

However, in the event of a countback, the jockey that rides the most winners receives the Medal.

Boss came with a whirlwind burst on Day 2 of The Star Championships at Royal Randwick, winning the Heineken 3 Percy Sykes Stakes on Away Game ($3.20 favourite), The Star Australian Oaks on Colette ($3 fav) and the Schweppes Sydney Cup on Etah James ($21 into $14).

Kerrin McEvoy also finished on 10 points but his sole The Star Championships winner was on Gracie Belle in the Newhaven Park Country Championships on Day 1.

The early favourite was James McDonald and he finished strongly with six points this afternoon via his win on Through the Cracks in the Polytrack Provincial Championships Final and placings on Danon Premium ($4.40) and Funstar ($2.50 fav).

Boss joins an elite honour roll for the Nathan Berry Medal that includes Hugh Bowman (four times), Blake Shinn and Tommy Berry/James McDonald (tied in the inaugural 2014 Medal).
