Gai Waterhouse and big Randwick miles go hand-in-hand and she proved it once again at The Championships Day 2 when outsider Amanpour careered away from a field of fillies and mares to win the Queen of the Turf Stakes.
The four-year-old was sent out a $21 chance despite having good recent form.
She finished second in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes behind glamour mare Catkins a fortnight earlier.
But she got her revenge over Chris Waller’s mare over the 1600-metre journey as Kerrin McEvoy led her around the turn before she showed a superior turn of foot to defeat Catkins by 1 ¾ lengths.
