Famously known for his distinctive heart shaped marking, Lankan Rupee has quickly taken the sprinting mantle left by Champion Black Caviar, stringing together six straight wins and being ranked the best sprinter in the world in early 2014. Lankan Rupee always showed talent however this began to shine all the more brightly after the hard decision for the colt to be gelded was made. Following his gelding procedure in the spring of 2013, he took out the Dilmah Earl Grey Stakes (L) and the Heffernan Stakes (G3). It was early 2014 that he cemented his title as the best sprinter in the world with four impressive straight wins. Starting off in Melbourne, he took the Rubiton Stakes (G3), Oakleigh Plate (G1) and Newmarket Handicap (G1) in quick succession. Heading to The Championships in Sydney, Lankan Rupee lined up against Australia’s best sprinters and on a heavy track beat them comprehensively to win the TJ Smith Stakes (G1).
